The boy next door. That’s what he was. Dash Frasier—my hero from the day we met, when I was six and he was nine. His sister was my best friend, the three of us one happy crew. Then one sweaty summer night changed everything.
No one understood me like Dash. No one made me feel so loved. That’s why, when he skipped town, it wrecked me.
Now I’m older. Wiser. I’ve just snagged my dream job, writing at a film studio. The lead animator on my project? You guessed it.
He’s not the boy next door. Not anymore.
I’m guarding my heart this time.
But Dash has secrets that could break us both.
I’m not even sure how to start this review because The Boy Next Door by Ella James is simply indescribable. It’s an emotionally powerful journey that has reached down deep into my soul and jumbled my mind. I feel scrambled up in the most exquisite ways because this novel had such a significant impact on me. Ella has created and provided readers with a truly sensational story that everyone needs to experience.
For the first time in a long time, I am going to love up on the heroine first. Amelia, Am, Ammy… whatever you want to call her, she’s fantastic. I want to be her friend so I could comfort her through the devastation of loving a guy that disappears when she needs him most. Amelia gives everything her has and hands over her precious heart to a boy that isn’t available to protect it. This girl is sensitive yet sassy, bold but cautious, and effing vivacious. At times, I actually wanted to reach into the pages so I could shake some awareness into her but that’s all part of her genuine appeal. Amelia made me sob, laugh, and curse – almost always at the same time – but most of all, I want to wrap her up in a hug.
Dash Frasier… the Big D, he’s quite the fellow. His character has so many layers and different faces that it took quite awhile to get an understanding of him. Dash is complex and dynamic with so much hidden beneath his sexy surface. There were points in the story where he broke me apart into tiny little pieces but that was necessary so he could put me back together again. This man, he is someone you will not forget and that is why Amelia never got over his vanishing act. Dash will alter your standards on fictional men and soon, we will all be fighting over him.
ALL THE FEELS! I’m still shaking a bit just reminiscing about this wild adventure. You get pain and grief, heightened happiness, seductive heat, beautiful romance, overwhelming frustration, and plenty of delicious drama. You all better hold on!
Pretty sure almost every page has a quote highlighted because the writing is just that amazing. I wanted to remember every perfectly described detail and monumental word. This is angsty romance at it’s finest, you guys. By the second chapter, I was crying and I NEVER tear up while reading anymore. When I reached halfway, my chest felt tight and my skin erupted in goose bumps because the tension was so extreme I could feel it everywhere. The climax is so freaking surreal I had to take several moments to collect myself before I could continue reading. This is a novel you don’t want to miss.
The Boy Next Door by Ella James is without a doubt one of my top reads of 2017 and has a safe spot in my all-time favorites.
